I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Gloss a while back during a climate change discussion. I thoroughly enjoyed "If Pigs Could Talk," and "Travels with Morgan." My favorite vacations in life have been "road trips." I loved his writing style and content. I believe road trips contribute to and create some of our values and beliefs. Travels with Morgan is more than a personal dairy and political thoughts of Roger Gloss, it is one of those reads that makes one self reflect on intentions, purpose, and accomplishments in life. Road trips seem to solidify our attitudes about other people, places and things. What we see and feel is clouded by who we are at that time. I enjoyed reading Roger's insights on America's future, and felt comfort in knowing I hear that similar chatter in my head as I cruise America's highways in my Honda van with my two dogs!
I liked “Travels with Morgan” as much as John Steinbeck’s “Travels with Charlie” maybe because I know Morgan, the best dog in the world. He’s relaxed, easy going but doesn’t get along with horses so well, who knew? It was Morgan’s aura of fair weather that was experienced everywhere they traveled but there’s no sense I suppose in tamping down Rogers confidence. Maybe I appreciate the book because I was on the receiving end of some fair weather when Roger and family visited Western New York. Like Roger I believe in “recognizing good service”, in this case good writing and I thoroughly enjoyed “Travels with Morgan”. It was exciting to learn of Roger and Linda deciding to leave the dark ages of cell phones and upgrading to smart phones. Also it was great fun to read about Roger’s travel “Plan” in its development stages and its deployment. I’ve observed a few of Roger’s plans from a distance and was amazed to read about a Roger Gloss plan from inception to execution. I’m looking forward to more writing from Roger and plan to subscribe to his ’s author’s to follow list.
I have been totally impressed with all Rogers books as we graduated from the same high school and writing a book is an awesome accomplishment in my estimation and I know the author! We are also on the same page politically, which further endears me to his previous books. I especially enjoyed this book for several reasons. My husband and I often talk about taking long distance car trips acround the country but worry about leaving the dog...Roger has shown that's not a big issue. Of course I loved the parts of the book describing his visit to our hometown and visits with several classmates. At first I thought the details about motels and food was a bit overdone but then realized it was a great reference guide for trips we might take. Mostly Roger made me laugh with his description of THE PLAN! An enjoyable read.
